Dear Parents:

The Confirmation class will be going to the Basilica of the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception on Friday, November 11, 2011.  This pilgrimage will be led by Father Barry.  This is a day off from school for Prince Georges County Public Schools and St. Pius X Regional School; the pilgrimage is required for students who are off from school on this day.  Students who are not off from school on November 11 are also invited to join us; however, it is ultimately a parent’s decision whether or not they would like their child to miss a day of school in order to join us on the pilgrimage.  I will provide a letter for an excused absence for any student who needs one; please let me know if I need to write a letter on behalf of your child to his or her school.

Attached is a permission slip.  Please fill it out and leave it in the folder on the Confirmation Bulletin Board in the Religious Education Hall by October 25.  No one will be allowed to come on the trip without a permission slip.

Transportation will be provided by Mrs. Weeks, me and other parent drivers – we do need parent drivers and chaperones to make this trip happen.  There is no cost for the trip.  We will be leaving St. Edward the Confessor at 9:00am.  Students must be at church by 8:45am.  We will return to the church at approximately 3:00pm.

The dress code for the trip is casual.  Please keep in mind that we will be in a church and students should dress appropriately.  We will be eating lunch in the cafeteria at the Shrine.  Students may either bring a bag lunch or purchase a lunch (this could be expensive).  There is also a gift shop.  Students may bring money to purchase items.

I am looking forward to this trip.  We have had a wonderful day with the students who went on this trip the last few years.  The Shrine is a beautiful church.  The students will learn about the traditions and history of our church.  It is wonderful preparation for Confirmation.

PERMISSION SLIP

I,                                                                      , allow my child,                                                                                  to attend the field trip to THE BASILICA OF THE NATIONAL SHRINE OF THE IMMACULATE CONCEPTION on FRIDAY, NOVEMBER 11.  Transportation will be provided in cars driven by Mrs. Curtis, Mrs. Weeks, and parent volunteers.  We will leave St. Edward the Confessor at 9:00am.  Students must by at church by 8:45am.  We will leave the Shrine at approximately 2:00pm to return to St. Edward the Confessor by 3:00pm.
