LITURGY COMMITTEE (ADULT)

 

Duties: Join others in visioning and implementing our desired outcomes regarding liturgy; one Commission member serves as Recording Secretary

Time: Eight meetings a year; liturgical study and reading on own; Recording Secretary spends approximately 2 additional hours typing and distributing minutes

Special Skills: Ability to work well on a team; special interest and/or expertise in liturgy

ALTAR SERVERS (child or teen)

 

Duties: Assist the presider during Mass by holding the Sacramentary, helping at presentation of the gifts, carrying the cross and candles when needed.

Time: One Mass every 3 weeks (arrive 20 minutes early), plus initial training and on-going formation sessions

Special Skills: An ability to be graceful, attentive and reverent at Mass; dependability

EXTRAORDINARY MINISTERS OF HOLY COMMUNION

Duties: Assist with distribution of the Eucharist, cleaning vessels after Mass

Time: One Mass every four weeks (stay 10 minutes after Mass), plus initial training and on-going formation sessions

Special Skills: Love and reverence for the Eucharist; ease in public settings; Catholic in good standing who has received the sacraments of initiation (Baptism, Confirmation and Eucharist), and have celebrated their 18th birthday.

EXTRAORDINARY MINISTERS OF HOLY COMMUNION TO THE HOMEBOUND (adult)

Duties: Bring Eucharist to and pray with homebound
parishioners regularly

Time: One hour each week; initial one-time training, and yearly days of training and reflection.

Special Skills: Ability to comfort people with prayer; a willingness to grow in the Lord’s service

READERS (teen or adult) 

 

Duties: Proclaim the Scripture readings at Mass with reverence and understanding

Time: One Mass every 3 weeks, with one formation session Saturday mornings; personal time spent in study and reflection on the Word

Special Skills: A love for God’s Word and desire to study it more deeply; a clear speaking voice; an ease speaking in front of people

CHILDREN’S LITURGY OF THE WORD

Duties: Help children understand the Sunday readings and gospel; work with a team to prepare a homily and activity using the Children's lectionary for children in the first and second grades

Time: Two (2) hours a month; one hour to prepare, one hour at the 9:00 AM Mass. Meets September through May.

Special Skills: Adults who enjoy working with children.

SACRISTANS (families or individuals)

 

Duties: Prepare for Mass by setting out vessels, bread and wine, lighting altar candles, etc.

Time: Weekend masses (arrive 30 minutes prior to Mass); plus initial training session.

Special Skills: A caring eye for detail; a desire to help “behind the scenes”

USHERS (families or individuals)

 

Duties: Seat parishioners; help families carry gifts at offertory procession; pass baskets at collection time; ensure orderly flow at communion time

Time: One Mass every 3 weeks (arrive 30 minutes early), plus initial training and an annual formation session

Special Skills: A love of order; an ability to graciously
welcome people
